Training Completed: GIS for Health and Research
The SIMAD Institute for Global Health (SIGHt) successfully concluded a two-day intensive training on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Health and Research, held on 15–16 February 2026 at the Executive Classroom, SIMAD University – Town Campus.
The training was designed to strengthen technical capacity in spatial analysis and its application to public health research and evidence-based decision-making.
Technical Focus Areas
Facilitated by Mr. Liban Hassan Mohamed, the program emphasized practical and analytical competencies in the use of GIS within health systems. Core areas covered included:
- Spatial data collection and management
- Geographic mapping techniques
- Disease distribution analysis
- Health service accessibility mapping
- Data visualization for research reporting
- Application of GIS tools to support policy and planning decisions
The sessions integrated theoretical foundations with structured hands-on exercises, enabling participants to translate spatial data into actionable public health insights.
Applied Learning and Outcomes
Participants engaged in practical exercises focused on:
