SIGHt Secures a Major Five-Year Grant as Part of International Global Health Consortium
The SIMAD Institute for Global Health (SIGHt), SIMAD University, is proud to announce that it is part of a successful international consortium that has secured a major five-year NIHR-LMIC grant. The consortium is led by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and brings together the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team (UK-PHRST), Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, the Pandemic Science Institute, University of Oxford, and a wide network of universities and public health organisations across sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
This is a significant achievement for SIGHt, SIMAD University, and Somalia. It reflects growing recognition of the important role Somali institutions can play in global health research and creates a valuable opportunity to strengthen disease surveillance, outbreak preparedness, and applied public health research in Somalia and beyond.
Through this partnership, SIGHt will contribute to collaborative work in infectious disease epidemiology, diagnostics, genomics, One Health, and rapid research to support preparedness and response. Over the next five years, the consortium will help strengthen research capacity, improve the use of evidence for public health action, and support more effective surveillance systems in fragile and low-resource settings.
SIGHt looks forward to working closely with consortium partners to advance impactful research, strengthen health security, and support more resilient health systems in Somalia and across affected regions.
