The SIMAD Institute for Global Health (SIGHt), through its Digital Health Program Coordinator, recently conducted an insightful workshop on Understanding Research Types and How to Publish. This session provided a beginner-friendly introduction to the fundamentals of scholarly writing, guiding participants on how to navigate the research process, select suitable publication formats, and successfully submit their work to academic journals.
The workshop covered key topics such as the importance of research in career growth, critical thinking in scientific writing, and various types of publications—including letters to the editor, commentaries, rapid communications, review articles, and original research papers. Special emphasis was placed on practical starting points for early-career researchers, particularly in Somalia, where research mentorship is still evolving.
